The idea of a letter home came from 
I thought it was cute, so I wrote one for Lunar.
Now, please note that she is essentially talking to her self, Though as she sees it, she is speaking with Monoceros.
She misses her home but has no one to write to.
The both the 'I' and the 'you' are pointing to Lunar.
The 'wasn't I the most important unicorn...' is refering to Monoceros.
